One of the great guitarists to introduce the neoclassical and rock styles of playing is Yngwie Malmsteen.  Malmsteen continues to be considered one of the best technical guitarists to hit the music industry and influenced generations of guitar shredders to come with his music.  While it might be difficult to keep up with Malmsteen’s playing without years of practice, it’s interesting to see and hear his approach to playing the guitar.  I collected a series of video lessons that feature Malmsteen talking about his music influences and guitar techniques.  I encourage you to listen to his message and see if it will make a difference in your approach to the guitar.  I hope you enjoy the videos as much as I did!

Malmsteen is known best for his neoclassical and rock playing, but I was also interested in seeing how he approaches the blues.  This first video contains lessons from Malmsteen about the pentatonic scale and common flourishes he uses in his blues playing.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rz–k7QEPA&feature=related.

Malmsteen explains more of his musical and guitar influences in this next video.  Malmsteen admits to a heavy classical influence and you can definitely hear it in this next video.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rL9BfsVgAc8.

I’ll leave you with a great performance of “Far Beyond The Sun” by Yngwie Malmsteen.  Malmsteen features many of his famous licks and tricks in this intimate performance.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eK0rvReE-4c.

Yngwie Malmstween has influenced generations of guitarists with his skill and approach to neoclassical rock music.  I hope you not only enjoyed these videos, but also learned something from them.  Malmsteen has years of experience to share with all of us.  Subscribe now to Mike’s Guitar Talk to receive these posts e-mailed directly to your inbox.  Look no further, your online source for guitar information is Mike’s Guitar Talk.
